October 21, (THEWILL) – Julian Brandt’s second-half goal was enough to give Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 home victory over a stubborn Werder Bremen side on Friday night. The win sends Dortmund temporarily top of the Bundesliga table.
Brandt collected a precise pass from Emre Can in the 67th minute before elegantly chipping the ball over Werder goalkeeper Michael Zetterer. The hosts dominated possession but found it difficult to break down the Werder backline. Donyell Malen and Marco Reus both went close in the first half but were denied by the inspired Zetterer.
After Brandt’s winner, the game opened up, but there were no further clear-cut chances as Dortmund held on for the three points.
