UFC: Severino Disqualified After Biting Lima’s Arm In Flyweight Bout

March 24, (THEWILL) – A shocking incident marred Saturday’s UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas when Igor Severino was disqualified for biting the inside of Andre Lima’s left bicep during the second round of their flyweight bout. The altercation unfolded as the two previously undefeated Brazilian fighters clashed in the octagon.

Referee Chris Tognoni halted the action after Lima alerted him to the bite. Upon reviewing the footage, officials made the decisive call to disqualify Severino, awarding Lima the victory. In the aftermath, Severino faced further consequences. He was immediately released from the UFC roster, as confirmed by president Dana White.

White did not mince words in condemning Severino’s actions, stating: “Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters. If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing you can do is bite your opponent. Now, you get cut and lose the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention, he’s going to have real problems with the NSAC.”

Despite the unsavoury turn of events, Lima remained undeterred, revealing his intent to continue the fight. “At one point, you saw with the elbows I was able to hit him really hard,” he told Paul Felder through an interpreter. “Then you saw, he bit me. … I was going to keep damaging him.”

In an unexpected twist, White announced that he would award Lima the first “I got f–king bit bonus” in UFC history, as confirmed by Lima’s manager, Lucas Lutkus.
