September 18, (THEWILL) – Jaka Bijol and Tolgay Arslan scored late goals to give Udinese a 3-1 victory at Stadio Friuli, frustrating Inter Milan, who squandered the opportunity to retake the summit of the Serie A standings.

Five minutes into the game, the visitors took the lead thanks to a goal from Nicolo Barella, before their hosts tied the score, thanks to an own goal from Milan Skriniar.

Both teams appeared content with splitting the spoils, but Udinese’s victory was secured by Bijol’s strong header off of a corner from Gerard Deulofeu and Arslan’s quick header in stoppage time added gloss to the scores on a disappointing day at the office for the Milan side.

Simone Inzaghi’s team will return in October with a battle to regain a spot in the top four after their defeat. The result moves Udinese temporarily to the summit of the League ahead of Milan’s match against Napoli and Atalanta’s trip to Roma.

On Saturday, October 1, the league will resume after the international break with an evening clash between Inter and Roma. Two days later, Hellas Verona will host Udinese at their Stadio M. A. Bentegodi.
