September 01, (THEWILL) – The Bayelsa State Government-owned University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT), now has a new Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma.
Until his appointment by the University Governing Council, which takes effect Friday, September 1, 2023; Professor Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
According to a Press Statement by the University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT) Media Assistant to the VC, Mr Tonye Yemoleigha, Professor Ayakoroma’s elevation to the position of Acting Vice-Chancellor follows the end of tenure of the former VC, Professor Kingston Nyamapfene.
Paying glowing tribute to his predecessor during a Valedictory Senate Session on Thursday, at the University’s Campus, Professor Barclays Ayakoroma, the Registrar, Dr. Akpoebi Adesi, Deans of Faculties and other members of Senate, as well as Union leaders, lauded the contributions of Professor Kingston Nyamapfene in nurturing the new University and laying a good foundation.
They commended the former Vice-Chancellor for building a strong bond and healthy working relationship among management, staff and students that have helped UAT in its pursuit of teaching, learning and research for academic excellence.
Members of Senate attributed the improved funding for research at the institution to the global approach to management adopted by the former Vice Chancellor, Professor Kingston Nyamapfene, and thanked him for the services he rendered to the University community.
In his response, Professor Kingston Nyamapfene expressed gratitude to God, the Bayelsa State Government and the entire UAT community for the opportunity to serve, adding that it was a great and fulfilling experience.
The Valedictory Senate Session observed a moment of silence in honour of the late UAT pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Valentine Aletor, whose remains were laid to rest last month.
