February 27, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Under-20 team will face Uganda’s Hippos in the quarter-finals of the TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Uganda jointly topped Group B and will take on the Flying Eagles, who finished second in Group A, at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday, March 3. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducted a drawing of lots to determine the top two teams in Group B since Uganda and Congo were tied on five points each with the same goal difference.

The Hippos of Uganda were drawn first, giving them the first spot in the group, while Congo secured the second place. Uganda, who reached the final in their first appearance at the U-20 AFCON in 2021, are five-time CECAFA U-20 Championship winners.

Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles won their group games against Egypt and Mozambique to secure six points and finish second in Group A. In the quarter-finals, Group A winners Senegal will face the third-ranked country in Group C, while Congo will meet the Group C runners-up.

The tournament, which was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, features 12 teams and will determine which four nations will represent Africa at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.
