October 18, (THEWILL) – At the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, Nigeria’s Flamingos and the Under-17 team from America will face off on Friday in a battle for a spot in the semifinal of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which is currently taking place in India.

The Flamingos advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Chile 2-1 in their third Group B match at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. The victory helped the team finish second in the group, six points behind Germany, who earned all three points.

Nigerians should expect a tough challenge when they play the Americans, who finished first in Group A, ahead of Brazil with seven points.

After scoring 13 goals overall and only giving up one in the group round, the Americans are one of the tournament’s free-scoring sides. They defeated the host nation of India 8-0 in their first game, drew 1-1 with Brazil, and defeated Morocco 4-0 in their last group game.

The Americans will be hoping to advance to the same stage of the competition only once since the first edition in 2008 where they finished as runners-up. The Flamingos are attempting to make their first semi-finals of the competition after three attempts.
