Two Men Charged With Murder Over Kansas City Chiefs Parade Shooting

February 21, (THEWILL) – Prosecutors, on Tuesday, filed charges against two men in connection with a shooting at a Super Bowl victory rally for the Kansas City Chiefs NFL team. The shooting left one dead and 22 injured.

Dominic Miller of Kansas City and Lyndell Mays of Raytown, were each charged with second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Court records show the men attended the Chiefs rally on February 14, 2024, armed with firearms. A quarrel broke out and gunfire erupted without regard for the thousands of attendees.

Jackson County Prosecutor, Jean Peters Baker, said at a news conference that the violence began when Mays quarrelled with a stranger. Their argument quickly escalated, with Mays pulling a pistol, prompting others nearby to swiftly draw weapons.

Whilst both men were charged with murder, evidence suggests gunfire from Miller’s weapon killed Elizabeth Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old radio personality.

In addition to the fatality, gunfire wounded 22, including at least 9 children. The incident happened after a championship parade and rally near Kansas City’s Union Station. Thousands of fans had gathered there to celebrate the Chief’s Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.
