May 23, (THEWILL) – Thomas Tuchel has declared that there might be up to five teams contending for the English Premier League title next season.

The Blues finished third in the 2021/2022 season with a 2-1 win over relegated Watford on the final day of the season, courtesy of a late goal from substitute Ross Barkley.

While another UEFA Champions League qualification is a plus, Chelsea had dominated the Premier League in the early months of the season in a three-horse fight, but fell behind Man City by 19 points over the winter period.

Tuchel does not anticipate things to go much easier next season, expecting that two other clubs would be resurgent and fighting for the crown, citing Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur’s predicted improvements.

“It will be a super tough race,” the German manager conceded, “Manchester United will be in the race and Tottenham will be in the race with Antonio Conte for sure.

“We want to stay in the race and Liverpool and Man City do everything to make their squads bigger and they set the standard so high. This is the challenge in which we compete.”
