February 05, (THEWILL) – Thomas Tuchel has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not travel to Abu Dhabi with the Chelsea squad this evening. The Chelsea manager will also miss Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Plymouth Argyle at Stamford Bridge.
“Thomas Tuchel has tested positive for COVID-19,” said a club press statement.
“The Chelsea head coach will now follow necessary self-isolation protocols and hopes to join up with the team in Abu Dhabi later next week. The team flew out for the Club World Cup following this afternoon’s FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle.”
Tuchel may still join the squad in the UAE if he tests negative for Covid-19 and Chelsea reach the Club World Cup final, which will take place on Saturday, according to the official announcement.
While it is uncertain who will oversee the team in Tuchel’s absence, Arno Michels and Zsolt Low are the most likely options. Michels has worked with Tuchel since 2009, when he was a member of the former Paris Saint-Germain squad.
