BEVERLY HILLS, December 18, (THEWILL) – President Donald Trump has been impeached by the House of Representatives on two articles of abuse of power and obstruction of congress.
The widely televised impeachment vote Wednesday makes him the third president to be impeached in the history of the United States.
The Democratic-led House’s passage of two articles of impeachment on a mostly party-line vote sets the stage for a trial next month in the Republican-controlled Senate – friendlier terrain for Trump – on whether to convict and remove him from office.
The republican majority in the Senate is expected to vote against his removal from office in also a heavily dominated partisan vote.
The abuse of power article in congress was passed on a 230-197 vote. The obstruction article was passed by 229-198.
