Tribunal Upholds Ododo’s Election As Kogi Governor

May 27, (THEWILL)- The Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has upheld the victory of Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the November 11 gubernatorial election in Kogi State.

A three-member panel of Justices led by Ado Birnin-Kudu, in a judgment on Monday, dismissed the petition filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its governorship candidate, Murtala Ajaka, against the election of Ododo.

Ajaka and his party, the SDP, had approached the Tribunal to challenge the declaration of Ododo as the winner of the November 11 gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The case, which commenced in December 2023, came to its highest point on May 13 when SDP, Ajaka, APC, Ododo and INEC adopted their final written addresses.

INEC, Ododo and his party, the APC, had through their lawyers, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN) Joseph Daudu (SAN) and Emmanuel Ukala (SAN) respectively, prayed the Tribunal to dismiss Ajaka and the SDP’s petition in its entirety for being incompetent and lacking in merit.

Delivering ruling on Monday, the tribunal agreed with the defence counsels and held that the petition lacked merit.
