Trevoh Chalobah Out Again As Chelsea Injury Woes Worsen

January 03, (THEWILL) – Chelsea’s central defender In Sunday’s 2-2 tie with Liverpool, Trevoh Chalobah is said to have re-injured his hamstring.

The Academy graduate, who has been dealing with the problem since early December, looked uneasy against Liverpool and was guilty of a weak header in the first half that allowed Sadio Mane to open the scoring.

Chalobah was replaced after 70 minutes and appeared to be in pain as he walked off the pitch, and Adam Newson has disclosed that the defender’s hamstring is once again a source of concern.

Chalobah was reportedly doubtful for the game due to this injury, but the decision to gamble his fitness was made, and it does not appear to have paid off.

Thomas Tuchel is already without Denmark international Andreas Christensen due to a back injury, and Cesar Azpilicueta has been deployed out wide due to the hamstring injury sustained by right-back Reece James.

Malang Sarr, Chelsea’s sole centre-back on the bench against Liverpool, can expect to play a key role in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Tottenham on Wednesday.

Tuchel has yet to give any minutes to young centre-backs this season, but has recently welcomed at least three to training.

Xavier Mbuyamba of the Netherlands joined Alfie Gilchrist and Josh Brooking in training ahead of the quarter-final against Brentford, and Tuchel, who is anxious to control the minutes of his senior players, may do the same here.

Forward Harvey Vale and Lewis Hall, a dynamic midfielder who has seen time at left wing-back for the academy sides, were both on the bench against Liverpool and will be hoping to get some game time on Wednesday.
