April 7, (THEWILL)- A tragic incident occurred in the vicinity of Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium before their English Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest. However, the match was allowed to go ahead as planned on Sunday evening.
The Metropolitan Police were called to Northumberland Park in Haringey on Sunday morning, where they found an unresponsive man with multiple stab wounds. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The club updated their guidance to confirm the fixture would remain on. In a statement, the club said they are “doing everything to accommodate the ongoing police investigation, which is of the utmost importance.” Fans were advised to allow extra travel time due to road closures in the area.
Police believe they know the identity of the individual and are working to inform his next of kin. No arrests have been made at this stage, but Chief Inspector Stephen Johnston-Keay assured the public that “specialist detectives are investigating and will leave no stone unturned in working to establish what happened.”
Despite the horrific incident, the EPL match between Tottenham and Forest proceeded as scheduled at 6 pm. The club has expressed its condolences to the victim’s family and all those affected.
