Tottenham Confirm Contract Extension For Son Heung-min

July 23, (THEWILL) – One of the most energetic performers in the last season for English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur was Son Heung-min and the South Korean has pledged his immediate future to the north London club by agreeing to a new four-year contract.

What an extra four years in the Tottenham Stadium immediately implies for Heung-min is that, if he spends all of it at Spurs without transferring elsewhere, it will see him reach a decade of professional football with the Tottenham club.

Although discussions about an exit for his strike partner, assistant team captain Harry Kane, are ongoing and yet to be resolved with a £160 million interest from Manchester City, the 29-year-old has committed himself to the EPL side looking forward to a season of new beginnings in the hands of new Football Managing Director Fabio Paratici and new team manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Heung-min will be key for the type of football Nuno will be planning for his side. The South Korean joined Spurs from Bundesliga’s Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, and in 280 appearances in all competitions, he has found the net 107 times while delivering 64 assists most often to Kane to tuck away.

In their best partnership in the Premiership last season, Son enjoyed an EPL record of 14 goal combinations with Kane as the duo both ended the season being included in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Team of the Season on the strength of that record combination.

In post-signing comments, Son said: “It was already a big honour to play here for six years, the club have showed me massive, massive respect and obviously I’m very happy to be here.

“It’s like home, especially with the fans, the players, the staff. There was no decision. It was easy. I’m so happy to be here and will be so glad to see the fans again soon.

Paratici added: “We are pleased to have agreed a new long-term contract with Heung-Min Son as we move towards the start of a new season and a new chapter for the club with Nuno Espirito Santo.

“Everyone can see the real positive impact he has on the club, both on and off the field, and we are delighted that he will play a part in what we are trying to achieve in the coming years.”
