Tinubu Mourns Former CAF President Issa Hayatou

August 09, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences over the passing of the former President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou.

THEWILL reports that the Cameroonian former CAF boss died on Thursday, in Paris, France at the age of 77.

In a statement on Friday, President Tinubu, who described Hayatou’s death as a “huge loss” to the football community, noted his significant contributions to the development of the sport in Africa and beyond.

Hayatou, who also served as acting President of FIFA, left an indelible mark on African football during his tenure.

The Nigerian leader commiserated with the Cameroonian Football Federation, the people of Cameroon, and the African football community, praying for the repose of Hayatou’s soul and strength for his family during this difficult time.

The statement reads: “President Bola Tinubu extends his condolences to the family of Mr. Issa Hayatou, former President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), who passed away at the age of 77 on Thursday.

“Mr. Hayatou was also one-time acting President of FIFA — the world’s football governing body.

“President Tinubu commiserates with the Cameroonian Football Federation, the people of Cameroon, and the African football community.

“The President describes the passing of the legendary football administrator as a huge loss, underlining his contributions to the development of the sport in Africa and beyond.

“The President prays for the repose of the soul of the departed and strength to his family at this difficult time.”
