Tinubu Approves Upgrade Of Ibadan Airport To International Status

June 26, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has approved the upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, to International status.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, made this known on Wednesday while receiving the Chief of Air Staff of the Nigeria Air Force (NAF), Air Marshal Hassan Baba Abubakar, at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, in Ibadan.

The approval follows the request of Governor Seyi Makinde to the federal government in his bid to change the status of the Ibadan facility to global status.

The Governor, who assured that work will commence on the project as soon as he gets all the necessary and required documentation perfected from the Presidency, solicited the input of personnel of the Air Force in the state to ensure the projects meet the required operating standards.

“I will be heading to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, later today to get the necessary documentation to that effect. The runway will be expanded and a new terminal will be built when the project commences. A team has been constituted to implement the project”, he added.

Earlier in his remark, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hassan Baba Abubakar, urged Governor Makinde to expedite action on its ongoing 10-kilometre Ajia-Airport road, to ease the movement of personnel who are already relocating to the Air Force base.

The Chief of Air Staff is in Ibadan as part of an Operational tour to Air Force formations across the country.
