September 08, (THEWILL) – With a dramatic straight sets victory over Andrey Rublev, Frances Tiafoe maintained his fairytale run at the US Open and advanced to the semi-final.

As THEWILL reported, the 22nd seed upset the Imperial Rafael Nadal in the fourth round and made headlines around the world, but his superb 7-6(3) 7-6(0) 6-4 victory over Rublev, shows that he is not content to sit back and enjoy that remarkable victory.

The match’s was delayed due to a last-minute decision to shut the roof of Arthur Ashe Stadium, and the extra tense energy caused by that unplanned delay was evident in the first few minutes of play. However, when the pace went up, it came down to the two players’ skill sets.

By advancing to the semis, Tiafoe becomes the first American male player to reach this stage of a major tournament since Andy Roddick in 2006.

He will meet either Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz in the last-four for a shot at the final, which will be richly rewarding for Tiafoe, who is playing in front of his countrymen and women.
