November 14, (THEWILL) – Ten Nigerian women’s national team players have received nominations across three categories for the upcoming Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards 2023. The illustrious list includes some of the Super Falcons’ biggest stars following their round of 16 appearance at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Tony Payne, Christy Ucheibe, Osinachi Ohale, Rasheedat Ajibade and Uchenna Kanu were all named to the shortlist for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. Goalkeeper Nnadozie also earned a nomination for the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year title, thanks to her impressive performances at the World Cup and for her club side Paris FC.
Esther Ajakaye, Deborah Abiodun and Oluwatosin Demehin are up for the CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year prize. Ajakaye recently made her senior international debut during Nigeria’s 2024 Olympics qualifying match against Ethiopia.

Coach Randy Waldrum, whose future with the African giants remains uncertain, is a contender for the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year award after guiding Nigeria to the knockout stage in the World Cup.
The CAF Awards Gala is set for December 11 in Marrakech, Morocco. Nigeria will also vie against nine other nations for the CAF Women’s National Team of the Year honour. Contending teams include women’s squads from Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ghana, Malawi, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.
