Ten Hag’s Selection Headache As Reguilon Ruled Out

September 29, (THEWILL) – Manchester United are counting up injuries ahead of a busy run of fixtures, with left back Sergio Reguilon sustaining an injury that could rule him out until after the upcoming international break.

Reguilon picked up a minor knock that forced him to miss United’s 3-0 League Cup victory against Crystal Palace on Tuesday. With Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia already sidelined with long-term injuries, Reguilon’s absence leaves United without any senior left backs.

The 26-year-old Spaniard had started United’s previous three matches after arriving on loan from Tottenham Hotspur late in the summer transfer window. Reguilon is definitely out for Saturday’s English Premier League match at home to Palace and is a doubt for next week’s UEFA Champions League tie against Galatasaray and the following weekend’s game against Brentford.

United manager Erik ten Hag will hope Reguilon can return swiftly after the international break. The Red Devils have been hindered by injuries in defence this season, with right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka also out for up to two months with a hamstring problem.

Reguilon will be keen to regain fitness and stake his claim for a regular starting spot after falling down the pecking order at Tottenham last season. His absence leaves Ten Hag short on options at left back as United enter a hectic run of matches.
