May 17, (THEWILL) – Erik ten Hag has acknowledged that he turned down “better” offers before accepting the Manchester United managership.
The Ajax manager will take over in the dugout from interim manager Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season, but he has already travelled to the United Kingdom to begin work on improving the club’s fortunes.
United are currently at their lowest point in history. They have failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League or win any silverware this season, and are on track to finish with their lowest English Premier League points total ever.
Ten Hag recently opened up on the enormity of the work ahead of him, stating that he turned down other job offers to take over at Old Trafford.
“I had choices to work at a different club, with a better foundation,” he said. “But I chose Man Utd. Things have to get addressed there and that’s a challenge. The club and I are on the same wavelength about how I want to do this.”
