Ten Hag Provides Update On Sancho’s Return To Squad

January 06, (THEWILL) – Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has said that he would like to have Jadon Sancho back on the team as soon as possible, but stressed that “footballers are not robots” and should not be rushed back into action.

THEWILL recalls that Sancho has not played for United since a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on October 22 and was not included in England’s World Cup squad.

Ten Hag had said in December that Sancho was not “in the right status or fitness state” and instead of participating in United’s winter training camp in Spain during the World Cup, he was placed on an individual training programme in the Netherlands.

The manager said that Sancho, who returned to United’s Carrington training ground this week, is currently on a personal training plan and is limited to small group sessions. He added that he will look to slowly reintegrate Sancho into training with the senior squad, but could not say how long it would take for the 22-year-old to be fit enough to return to competitive action.

“Football players are not robots,” Ten Hag said about Sancho’s recovery period. “No one is the same, I think for everyone you need an individual approach.”
