Ten Hag Gets His Striker As Hojlund Joins Man Utd From Atalanta For £64m

August 05, (THEWILL) – Manchester United has completed the signing of Denmark striker, Rasmus Hojlund, from Atalanta for a reported fee of £64 million.

“It is no secret that I have been a fan of this great club since I was a small boy, and I dreamed of walking out at Old Trafford as a Manchester United player,” Hojlund said. “I am incredibly excited by this opportunity to turn that dream into a reality, and I am determined to repay the faith that the club has shown in me.” The 20-year-old forward agreed to a five-year contract with the option of a further season, fulfilling United manager Erik ten Hag’s wish to bolster the team’s attacking options ahead of the new English Premier League campaign.

“Rasmus is a truly exceptional talent. He possesses technical and physical attributes which rank him among the best players in the world for his age group,” stated United football director John Murtough. “Working under Erik and his coaches will provide Rasmus with the perfect development platform.” Hojlund’s impressive performance last season, during which he scored 10 goals in 34 appearances for Atalanta, caught the eye of Ten Hag, who believes the young talent will thrive under the spotlight at Old Trafford.

The Danish striker’s transfer came after United reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign England striker Harry Kane, who is now likely to join Bayern Munich. “It is still early in my career, but I know that I am ready to make this step up and play with this group of world-class players,” Hojlund said. Paris Saint Germain was also rumored to be interested in Hojlund, but the Danish player ultimately chose to join United. With his technical and physical attributes, Hojlund is seen as an exceptional talent and a valuable addition to the team’s roster.

Ten Hag’s ambition to mount a sustained title challenge this season led to the club’s significant spending in the transfer market. Hojlund becomes the third major arrival at Old Trafford since last season, following the signings of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount and Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana ahead of their Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14.
