January 29, (THEWILL) – Erik ten Hag is awaiting a full diagnosis on the ankle injury of midfielder Christian Eriksen to determine the extent of his injury and the possible timeline of his return to action.
The Denmark international was on the receiving end of a strong challenge from Reading striker Andy Carroll during United’s 3-1 FA Cup fourth-round victory. Eriksen was later spotted leaving Old Trafford on crutches.
Ten Hag is concerned about Eriksen’s injury, especially with crucial Premier League matches and a UEFA Europa League showdown with Barcelona coming up over two legs next month.
In post-match comments, Ten Hag referenced Eriksen’s injury when he said: “It’s always difficult to say so soon after the game finished, but it’s an ankle [injury] and we have to see what the diagnosis is. It will be a minimum of 24 hours before we know that, and then I can say more.”
Despite the injury to Eriksen, United’s victory keeps the club in contention across all competitions this season.
