February 08, (THEWILL) – Domenico Tedesco has been named as the new Head Coach of Belgium’s national team, succeeding Roberto Martinez, who stepped down after the team’s shock exit from the World Cup in Qatar.
Tedesco, who was previously sacked by RB Leipzig in September, signed a contract to lead Belgium until after the 2024 European Championships. During his time at Leipzig, he led the club to its first DFB-Pokal and took them to the Europa League semi-finals.
“For me, it is a great honour to be the new Head Coach of Belgium,” Tedesco said in a statement. “I am really looking forward to the task and I am extremely motivated.”

Tedesco’s first task will be to guide Belgium through the European Championships, with the first qualifier set to be played against Sweden on March 24.
Meanwhile, Martinez, who led Belgium to the top of FIFA’s world rankings between 2018 and 2021, has since taken charge of Portugal’s national team.
