May 11, (THEWILL) – Taraba State House of Assembly Speaker, Professor Joseph Albasu Kunini, has condemned deeply the attacks on the Commanding Officer’s convoy in Takum, which led to the killing of Seven personnel and the bomb blast at the military base in Jalingo on Tuesday night.
The Speaker, lamenting the attacks, expressed worries that they are becoming a major threat to the peace and stability in the state.
Kunini, who urged security agencies to go all out and tackle the situation, also called on the good people of Taraba to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements around them to the security outfits.
According to him, “Last night’s attacks in Takum and here in Jalingo, are very disheartening and cannot be put under the carpet. We cannot accept this as our new normal. Let me urge all Tarabans to be vigilant and to provide relevant information to our security agencies to help them tackle this menace.”
Kunini also condoled with the Nigerian Army and Police Force over the sad loss of their personnel in Takum on Tuesday, praying that God grants them the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
The unfortunate incident, according to him, is indeed a great loss to the Army, the Force, the families, Taraba state and Nigeria as a whole.
Spokesperson of the police Command in Taraba, DSP Abdullahi Usman, who confirmed this in a phone interview, said that the command has already deployed reinforcement to the area to track down the attackers and rescue the CO, who is suspected to have been abducted by the terrorists.
THEWILL gathered that at least Six soldiers and a Mopol officer, were Tuesday night killed in Takum local government area of Taraba state, when herdsmen attacked the convoy of the Commanding Officer of 93 army Battalion, Takum.
Also a third explosion in the period of about a month went off Tuesday night, at the headquarters of the 6 Army Brigade in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.
