Taraba Federal Lawmakers Divided Over Suntai

…Say  he remains governor

SAN FRANCISCO, August 30, (THEWILL) – The health status of Taraba State governor, Danbaba Suntai, appears to have divided lawmakers from that state at the National Assembly.

On Friday, a caucus of five federal lawmakers from the State expressed disgust at the political events in Taraba and appealed to the various gladiators within and outside the state to allow peace to reign.

In a veiled position on the unfolding political imbroglio in the state, the five lawmakers led by Senator Abubakar Umar Tutare   include  Hon Ishyaka Bawa, Hon Adamu Ibrahim Malle and Hon Ibrahim El-Sudi, urged the ailing governor to “hold the opinion, welfare and wishes of the people with high respect.” Hon. Jerry Manwe, a member of the group, was however absent at the event.

The lawmakers however paradoxically declared that Suntai remains the undisputed Executive Governor of Taraba State. But Hon Jerry Manwe, a member of the group was absent.

The lawmakers also warned those meddling in   the internal affairs of the state to desist and allow the state to sort itself out.

The five lawmakers also called on elder statesmen and highly placed persons from Taraba State to urgently convene a meeting with a view to proffering solution to the present political logjam in the state.

They also took a swipe at the gladiators, who, they said, were “playing politics” with the health of the governor, a development they argued was “unfortunate, shameful, and uncalled for.”

According to the lawmakers, “Rather than concerning ourselves with bringing development and dividends of democracy for peaceful co-existence and progress amongst our varied and diverse ethnic and religious configuration, we are busy politicking with the health of our amiable Governor, His Excellency, Danbaba Danfulani Suntai.

“Rather than uniting our people who are peace loving, dynamic and enterprising, we are busy dividing them and creating unnecessary tension for selfish reasons. Rather than praying for Governor Danbaba’s speedy recovery, we are busy scheming,   outsmarting and outwitting each other for selfish aggrandisement or the unknown 2015. ”

Flanked by Hon. Bawa, Dr. Malle, and El-Sudi, Senator Tutare said the group was concerned with the charged political atmosphere in the country, even as it urged the deputy governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, to continue serving as acting governor as constitutionally enshrined until Governor Danbaba is convincingly fit to steer the affairs of the state.

They also urged the Taraba State Government to continue to take responsibility of his health expenses and all other personal responsibilities as they may arise.

“His health and welfare should be of utmost importance to all genuine lovers of Governor Danbaba, political gladiators, individuals and groups. To that extent, all Tarabans and all well wishers throughout Nigeria should continue to pray for his speedy recovery,” the group said.
