Tambuwal Seeks Closer Ties Between Nigeria, China

SAN FRANCISCO, September 18, (THEWILL) – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Wednesday, called for the strengthening of bilateral ties between Nigeria and China .

He made the call when the Chairman of the China’s National People’s Congress, Mr. Zhang Dejiang, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Tambuwal urged the two parliaments to work closely to bridge the gap of trade imbalance between the two nations which, he said, was in favour of China.

The Speaker restated the commitment of the House to boosting trade and investment ties between the two countries.

He said with the status of the country in Africa, Nigerians were mobilised to achieve the objective of the Nigerian federation.

Speaking earlier, Dejiang said China was ready to assist Nigeria build its governmental institutions and enhance unity among its various ethnic nationalities.

He called for the establishment of a working partnership between the Chinese Parliament and the National Assembly of Nigeria.

He said the two institutions could enhance bilateral ties between the two countries.

According to him, China, like Nigeria, has various ethnic and religious groups which have been living in peace and harmony for thousands of years.

He said Nigeria has a lot to learn from his country, and that China is willing to assist Nigeria manage its large population of different ethnic and religious groups.

He noted that Nigeria is one of the most important trading partners of China and expressed optimism that the long-standing relationship between the two countries would be enhanced.

Dejiang said remarkable changes and people-oriented reforms have taken place in China and these have ensured developments in all fronts.
