Parton was laid to rest on Friday, August 28, in Nashville, Tennessee. Her great-niece, Lainey Mae Parton, confirmed the burial in an emotional social media post the following day.

In a statement to PEOPLE, Parton’s representatives said the singer died on August 25 at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by loved ones. They did not disclose the type of cancer she had been battling.

Trump called Parton “one of the greatest Country Music Singers of all time” and said her passing was “a loss for millions of people around the world.”

Her family announced her death Tuesday, with her nephew Bryan Seaver sharing the news in a video on social media. Seaver, who served as Parton’s head of security for more than two decades, said she had asked him years ago to make the announcement.
