The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) disclosed the development on its official website, saying a US Air Force C-17 military transport aircraft delivered the equipment to the Nigerian Air Force over the weekend.

The United States is preparing to draw down about 200 troops deployed to Nigeria earlier this year following a period of intensified counterterrorism cooperation that produced significant gains against Islamist militant networks. The New York Times (NYT), citing US military officials, reported on Thursday that the larger American contingent is expected to leave Nigeria by late September.

The training, conducted at an Operating Location (OL) in Bauchi State, is designed to strengthen the capability, readiness and long-term operational capacity of Nigerian forces amid continuing security challenges across the country. The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in a report released on Monday, said the exercises were part of a broader security cooperation mission focused on sharing military expertise and improving interoperability between American and Nigerian forces.
