March 28, (THEWILL) – Poland secured their first Group E points of the Euro 2024 qualifiers with a 1-0 win over Albania, thanks to Karol Swiderski’s goal before the break.
The victory was much needed for the Polish team, who suffered a 3-1 defeat against the Czech Republic in their opening game on Friday. Swiderski’s low shot found the net on the rebound after Jakub Kaminski’s free-kick hit the post.
Despite being well marked by the Albanian defence, Robert Lewandowski had a couple of chances to increase the lead but failed to convert them. Albania’s Myrto Uzuni also came close to levelling the score two minutes from time with a shot that went just wide of the left post.
After the game, Swiderski expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and praised their efforts. With this win, Poland moved into second place in Group E, one point behind leaders Czech Republic, who drew 0-0 away to Moldova in the other match of the group.
