May 23, (THEWILL) – World number one, Iga Swiatek, breezed through her first-round match against Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko, to get to the second round of the French Open in straight sets and continue her incredible winning streak.
The Polish player qualified for the second round in less than an hour and was extremely efficient in her performance, as she attempts a second title at Roland Garros.
Although some games were delayed due to rain, Swiatek’s domination was not impeded as they played under the roof. The top seed has now won 29 consecutive bouts, but is not letting her form keep her from remaining grounded.
“I’m pretty sure that I can (still lose a game),” Swiatek said, “but I just want to keep going. I know my streak may stop one day so every day I want to be focused on my tennis and not on stats or numbers.
“Focus on my game and be in a bubble that will help me be consistent. I have done that in the past few weeks and I will continue doing that here.”
