Super Falcons Fall To 7th Straight Loss In Second 1-0 Defeat At Mexico’s Revelation Cup

February 19, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Super Falcons faced yet another defeat at the Revelation Cup in Mexico, losing 1-0 in their match against Colombia.

The South Americans won 1-0, thanks to a fifth-minute strike from 17-year-old Linda Caicedo, who is reportedly wanted by both Barcelona and Real Madrid. In a match that the South Americans dominated, the Super Falcons made several attempts to equalise but they were unable to find the back of the net. Nigeria produced very little quality in attack, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, was the best player in defence.

The Nigerian ladies were looking to get back to winning ways against the Coffee Growers but could only sink to a new low even with the World Cup around the corner. It has been a disappointing outing for the Waldrum-led team in Mexico, having lost their first two games at the Revelation Cup and are no longer in the running to lift the title.

Serious questions have to now be asked about the future of coach Randy Waldrum, who has led Nigeria to a seventh straight defeat since the women’s AFCON in Morocco last year. The loss has put their chances of doing well at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in jeopardy.

Waldrum had boasted before the match against Colombia that he was working to implement some of Erik Ten Hag’s strategies at Old Trafford into the Falcons. But there was little evidence inside the Estadio Leon to show that the Super Falcons are ready to make any meaningful impact at the 2023 FIFA World Cup later this year in New Zealand and Australia.
