January 09, (THEWILL) – Ahead of the January 11 opener of the Super Eagles at the TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen oversaw Saturday’s in-house fixture, that offered an inkling as to his preferred lineup against Egypt.
Saturday’s workout concluded with this practice match between the likely starters and the reserve bench. The lineup saw Eguavoen make one change from the squad that beat Cameroon domestic league champions Coton Sport 2-0, with Maduka Okoye replacing Francis Uzoho in the likely first eleven with green bibs.
Chelsea’s youth system graduate Ola Aina was at right-back and left-back was manned by Zaidu Sanusi, as they were against Coton Sport. Also, William Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo were re-paired in central defence.
The holding midfielders were Joe Aribo and Wilfred Ndidi, while the offensive midfielders were Chidera Ejuke, Kelechi Iheanacho, Peter Olayinka and Ahmed Musa, with Taiwo Awoniyi spearheading the assault.
Daniel Akpeyi, three former Arsenal players in Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Nwakali, and Semi Ajayi, Tyronne Ebuehi, Chidozie Awaziem, Olisa Ndah, Frank Onyeka, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Henry Onyekuru and Sadiq Umar made up the other yellow-bibbed lineup.
