June 10, (THEWILL)- Police in Kenya are on the trail of a student who reportedly stabbed a school Principal with a four-inch nail before fleeing.

The 18-year-old is alleged to have taken a wooden plank with a projected nail and hit the Principal, Geoffrey Rono, on the head.

The incident transpired at Ainamoi Secondary School in Kericho County, Kenya’s South Rift.

According to police reports, the incident ensued a day after the Principal sent home students with school fee arrears, including the suspect.

The student on the run is said to owe the school ksh7,000 ($70).

Rono was rushed to the hospital by passers-by, who responded to the alarm raised by the students who witnessed the 6pm incident.

He was treated and discharged and now recuperating at his home.

In January, Kenya’s Education Cabinet Secretary, Professor George Magoha, re-introduced corporal punishment in schools following the rise of indiscipline in learning institutions, particularly secondary and primary schools.

“Learners will not commit crimes and walk scot-free. We shall ensure that these situations are neutralised before they escalate. They must be caned and we shall authorise teachers to punish them,” Magoha stated.
