August 31, (THEWILL) – Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Chelsea winger, Raheem Sterling, on a season-long loan. The transfer was completed just before the English transfer deadline, requiring a deal sheet to be filed with the English Premier League.
Sterling, who previously worked with Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, at Manchester City, moves to the Emirates Stadium after being effectively forced out of Chelsea. The Blues had stripped him of his squad number, and head coach Enzo Maresca publicly told Sterling to find a new team or risk being relegated to the reserves.
The England international joins Arsenal’s attack for the 2024/2025 campaign, providing additional options on the left side alongside Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Leandro Trossard. Sterling can also offer cover for Bukayo Saka on the right flank, bolstering the team’s depth after losing Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe to other clubs this summer.
This move could potentially help Sterling regain his place in the England squad, having missed out on the 2024 European Championships in Germany. He was also omitted from Lee Carsley’s squad for the September internationals.
While Sterling will not be eligible to play against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, he is expected to be registered in time for the north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur after the international break
