BEVERLY HILLS, June 04, (THEWILL) – One of the top European football clubs still searching for a manager in the recent shuffling of managers across the continental football is north London English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
The news swirling about the club is that they have begun talks with former title-winning manager of Inter Milan Antonio Conte but there has been nothing permanent yet.
However, Daniel Levy, the British businessman and current chairman of Spurs is heavily interested in bringing the Italian over to north London on the knowledge that Conte has the managerial chops to change the fortunes of the club for the better. To this end, Levy has reportedly offered Conte a huge transfer budget as an incentive to convince him to accept the offer.
All indications point towards Conte taking on the responsibility of succeeding Jose Mourinho in the Spurs dugout after his impressive winning run at the Serie A side Inter, where he helped the Milan club stop the serial title grab of Italian giants Juventus. The fine details of the contracts may be the final hurdle keeping the deal from being sealed, which may be part of Levy’s offer of transfer money.
Furthermore, there is the decision about Harry Kane to be made as well, which could impact the final decision that Conte makes about accepting the job from Levy. The suggestion is that Conte is holding back until Spurs can guarantee that Kane will remain with the Lilywhites, as the Italian believes the striker will be relevant to his project upon a return to the EPL.
The north London outfit has shown a determination to keep Kane even as interest from other English clubs have grown, especially from fellow London club, the recent UEFA Champions League champions Chelsea, who are looking for a striker in the lethal mould of Kane. Coupled with Kane’s own strong desire to move on, it will be a tricky game forcing him to stay.
While that continues, Levy understands that a team of Conte’s liking will be markedly different from what their current squad offers. This is behind the massive outlay Spurs are offering the Italian for him to oversee a summer overhaul and make choice improvements to the state of the squad. Younger options in the centre-back, right-back and central midfield will be a proper start.
This will blend easily with the Italian’s style of play as Conte almost exclusively prefers a formation with three centre-backs. There are options Spurs have considered recently such as Joachim Andersen, who had a splendid season on loan with Fulham, and MIlan Skriniar, with whom Conte enjoyed a title-winning campaign at Inter.
Though it has been a financially challenging period, the need to spend is not lost on Levy especially when linked with their attempts to bring in a coach of Conte’s quality. The exact amount he is willing to offer the Italian has not been made public but it may involve making some money off some players in the current squad.
However, they have made a case to Conte to let him know that if he accepts, he will be getting the funds to get some of the players he wants for the kind of team he can manage
