Spurs’ Son Injury Scare On International Duty With South Korea

November 16 (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur were given an injury scare on Thursday, as star forward, Son Heung-min, picked up a knock while representing South Korea. The 31-year-old scored his side’s third goal in their 5-0 rout of Singapore on Thursday, but later went down clutching his ankle and required treatment.

With Son visibly in pain, Spurs fans feared the worst, as their top scorer remained on the pitch for the final 10 minutes. Manager, Jurgen Klinsmann, was urged to withdraw the talisman to avoid exacerbating the issue. Son joins an extensive injury list at Tottenham already containing Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Richarlison, Destiny Udogie, Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon.

Fortunately, Son moved to reassure fans that he had avoided serious injury. “I am fine now, I don’t like to lie down for a long time [on the pitch] in winter,” he stated after the game. “At that moment [I went down] I couldn’t feel anything on my foot.”

The South Korean added: “We are making a team for the World Cup, I can’t give up a game just because I feel pain. If I can’t run anymore, then I can’t do anything about it but when I can run, I have to give 100% for the team.”

This is not the first injury scare Son has given Spurs this season while on international duty. Both September and October brought alarms, but the forward has started all 12 English Premier League games under manager Ange Postecoglou. When asked about resting Son, Postecoglou insisted he would not change anything about the dedicated star.

As South Korea builds towards the 2022 World Cup, Son’s commitment to his country remains unwavering. Spurs will hope this latest knock proves only a minor concern.
