Spurs Snatch Stoppage Time Winner Against Brighton, Break Into Top Four

February 10, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur pulled off a dramatic 2-1 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion, thanks to a stoppage-time winner from substitute Brennan Johnson. The late goal lifts Spurs into the top four after their thrilling English Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi absent due to dental surgery, assistant Andrea Maldera took charge of the visitors. His side got off to a flying start and should have taken an early lead through Danny Welbeck. However, the chance went begging and it was Pascal Gross who eventually put Brighton ahead from the penalty spot after 17 minutes.

Tottenham struggled to find any rhythm in the first half and went into the break trailing 1-0. Inspired substitutions from Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou turned the match on its head after the interval. Summer signing Pape Sarr grabbed an equaliser just after the hour mark before fellow sub Son Heung-Min teed up Johnson to snatch an unlikely three points for the home side deep into added time.

The dramatic victory lifts Tottenham above Aston Villa into fourth position in the EPL table. Meanwhile, Brighton remain ninth following the loss. Postecoglou will be delighted his changes paid off to earn a vital win in the race up the standings in England’s top division.
