October 27, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur recovered from a lacklustre first half to claim a 2-1 victory away at Crystal Palace, extending their lead at the top of the English Premier League table to five points.
The visitors struggled initially at Selhurst Park and failed to register a shot on target before the break. However, they moved through the gears after half-time, taking the lead in the 53rd minute when Joel Ward turned the ball into his own net from James Maddison’s cross.
Club captain Son Heung-min then made it 2-0 in the 66th minute, finishing off a neat move involving substitutes Brennan Johnson and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Jordan Ayew pulled one back for Palace late on but it proved only a consolation.
The win makes it four consecutive league victories for Tottenham and manager Ange Postecoglou. They now boast a five-point cushion over second-placed Manchester City, who play Manchester United on Sunday.
There were also positives in the long-awaited returns from injury of Ben Davies and midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur. The three points may have come the hard way, but this was another big step forward for Postecoglou’s new-look side.
