December 05, (THEWILL) – Tottenham shook off a sluggish first-half performance to beat Norwich 3-0 on Sunday, with Lucas Moura scoring a spectacular long-range goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Lucas’ thunderous effort set the tone for the home side, as he slid past a few challenges before arrowing an unstoppable drive past Tim Krul, in the Norwich goal, for his first Premier League goal since February.
It was another disappointing result for Norwich and Dean Smith’s charges will know that they could have done better especially after the chances they few were able to create. That clinical finishing was the difference even though they were also poor even in creating chances.
When Teemu Pukki had the chance to score for the Canaries early on, he instead fired straight at Hugo Lloris and Adam Idah scuffed his attempt wide from a good position.
These wasted opportunities favoured the hosts and Spurs’ quickly doubled their advantage thanks to Davinson Sanchez’s untidy finish. It did not matter how it came about as long as it read 2-0 on the scoreboard and gave Spurs a double goal cushion.
It got even better because in the 77th minute, following good work from Ben Davies, Son Heung-min hammered home from close range to seal the victory for the Lilywhites. It was a victory that moved them to sixth place in the Premier League, two points behind the top four with a game in hand.
Meanwhile, their ninth loss this season means Norwich remain rooted at the bottom of the log with Smith in the uncomfortable position of justifying his employment.
