October 7 (THEWILL) – For Nigeria’s Under-23 men’s national team, also known as the Olympic Eagles, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has obtained a camping site ahead of the squad’s October tie against Tanzania in a Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Ministry is responsible for setting up camps and overseeing the qualifying campaigns and competitions of the men’s and women’s U-23 teams for the Olympic and continental competitions. The new NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau applauded the Ministry for securing the camp to aid adequate preparations for their qualifiers.

The first leg will be in Tanzania over the weekend of October 21–23, with the return game scheduled for Nigeria on October 29 at Adamasingba’s Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. 32 players will be in camp in the Oyo State capital under coach Salisu Yusuf.

THEWILL recalls that Nigeria won the 2015 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal and went on to earn the bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. However, the class of 2019 was denied a spot in the Tokyo Olympics last year because they were unable to advance to the knockout round in Egypt.

In 1996, Nigeria won gold at the Olympic Men’s Football Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia. 12 years later, in Beijing, China, they finished with the silver medal.
