April 20, (THEWILL) – As part of plans to rejuvenate Nigeria’s sporting landscape, the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has announced a landmark partnership with private sector giants via his X handle. The aim of the agreement is to breathe new life into the Challenge Cup, a historic football competition that has been foundational to grooming football talents since 1945.

The Minister revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with GTI Asset Management and Trust Limited. This leading investment banking firm, already engaged with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), will collaborate to relaunch the Challenge Cup as the “President Federation Cup.”

The revamped tournament promises to be a veritable spectacle. Plans are in place to involve grassroots teams, create employment opportunities for an estimated 500,000 Nigerians, and engage over 100 million football fans across the country. The President Federation Cup is envisioned as a global window into Nigeria’s sporting pedigree and, according to Enoh, a lasting legacy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Lauding the partnership, the Minister emphasised the government’s commitment to revolutionising sports through innovation, technology, and expertise. He extended his gratitude to key stakeholders, including the Sports Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Tinuke Watti; NFF President, Mr. Musa Gusau, and the GTI team led by Mr. Abubakar Lawal.

With grand ambitions and corporate muscle, the President Federation Cup is poised to reclaim its glory days, igniting passion among fans and putting Nigerian football firmly on the continental map and beyond.
