September 25, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Minister for Sports Development, John Enoh, has established a seven-member committee to investigate issues that arose during the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympic Games.
The committee will examine several matters, including the omission of Favour Ofili’s name, doping concerns involving some athletes, the alleged contract between Actively Black and the Nigeria Olympic Committee, and conduct among Team Nigeria members.
Dr. Mumuni Alao will chair the committee, which includes members such as Aliyu Mohammed, Hajia Rakiya Muhammed, Godwin Enakhena, Dr. Abubakar Ango, and Nnene Akudo, while Barr. Victor Okangbe will serve as secretary.
The committee comprises sports enthusiasts with strong reputations, chosen from outside the Sports Ministry and groups involved in the recent games to ensure impartial assessment.
Enoh emphasised the importance of addressing these issues openly rather than ignoring them. He stated that this approach is necessary to create a positive path forward for Nigerian sports. The Minister expects the committee to assign responsibility where appropriate and determine suitable consequences.
By investigating the problems that occurred during the Paris games, officials hope to prevent similar issues in future competitions and enhance Nigeria’s standing in the global sports community.
This development comes as part of ongoing efforts to reform and strengthen Nigeria’s sports sector. The results of the committee’s investigation should lead to significant changes in how the country prepares for and participates in major international sporting events.
