July 16, (THEWILL) – Sporting Lagos and Remo Stars are set to clash in the final of the Naija Super Eight Tournament, in what has been termed a Southwest derby in the Nigerian Premier League (NPL).

Sporting Lagos, a newly promoted team, has impressed in their debut competition, defeating established clubs like Enyimba and Rivers United to reach the final. On the other hand, Remo Stars secured their spot in the final with a 2-1 victory over Lobi Stars in the semi-finals. The match, which will be held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, promises to be an exciting encounter with prize money of N25 million at stake.

Coach John Offor of Sporting Lagos was clear about his team’s intention to enjoy themselves in the final, stating that regardless of the outcome, they have already achieved their aim for the season. Meanwhile, Remo Stars’ coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, exuded confidence in his team’s ability to clinch the trophy, firmly believing in their chances of victory.

The final is scheduled to kick off at 5 pm and the winning team will not only lift the trophy and the N25 million in prize money, but also an additional N3 million earned for each group and semi-final match. The runner-up will be awarded N9 million.

In other news, Sporting Lagos and Katsina United have been fined N200,000 each by the tournament organisers, Flykite Productions, for the teams’ failure to comply with the agreement to throw their jersey shirts to the crowd after matches. Instead of distributing jerseys randomly, players chose individuals from the crowd who were suspected to be their friends. The organisers had warned participating clubs about potential financial sanctions for breaching the jersey-throwing agreement, expressing their disappointment with Sporting Lagos players for not adhering to the rules and announcing the additional fine.
