August 30, (THEWILL) – Nigeria National League (NNL) team, Sporting Lagos, have decided not to extend the contract of head coach Abdullahi Biffo. The club made this choice following their relegation from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) last season.
Biffo joined Sporting Lagos midway through the previous campaign, replacing Paul Offor. Despite his efforts, the team was unable to maintain their NPFL status and will now compete in the NNL for the 2024/2025 season.
The club’s management is now looking for a new head coach to lead the team in the long term. They are taking their time to assess potential candidates who can help Sporting Lagos bounce back to the top flight.
In addition to the coaching change, Sporting Lagos have seen a significant exodus of players. Twenty-five squad members have left the club, including several key figures. Among the departures are former NPFL top scorer, Junior Lokosa, Jonathan Alukwu, Pascal Durugbor, Godwin Odibo, Wisdom Fernando, and Rivio Anyemwenre.
These changes mark a period of transition for Sporting Lagos as they aim to rebuild and compete for promotion back to the NPFL. The club will need to recruit new talent and establish a strong foundation to achieve their goals in the upcoming NNL campaign.
