March 15, (THEWILL) – Brentford continued their impressive form with a 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Southampton to pile more pressure on Saints’ manager, Ruben Selles.
Ivan Toney, the man-of-the-match, once again found the back of the net to secure the victory, while Kevin Schade made his first start for the Bees. Toney capped off his performance by providing the assist for the late Yoane Wissa goal.
Bee’s manager, Thomas Frank, made just one change to the team that lost to Everton, with Schade replacing Mikkel Damsgaard. Southampton, on the other hand, made two changes from their previous game against Manchester United.
Brentford took the lead after a slow start to the game, with Toney tapping in a free-kick in the 30th minute. Wissa scored in the 97th minute to seal the win for the visitors. The win sees Brentford skip past Fulham into eighth position on 41 points after 26 games. Southampton are still at the end of the table and staring relegation in the face.
Southampton will host Tottenham Hotspur in their next game, while Brentford will welcome Leicester City to their London ground.
