February 24, (THEWILL) – Southampton have announced the appointment of Ruben Selles, as their Manager for the rest of the season.
Selles was made Interim Manager after Nathan Jones, was fired earlier this month. The decision was made after a shock 1-0 win against Chelsea, which saw Southampton claim only their second top-flight win since October 2021.
Southampton, currently at the bottom of the table, will face off against 19th-placed Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday, trailing by only one point. With 15 games left to play, the club’s hierarchy has decided to stand by Selles, hoping that he can help the team avoid relegation.
This is not Selles’ first stint as Southampton’s Manager this season. He took charge of the team earlier in the campaign after Ralph Hasenhuttl, was dismissed. The club will be hoping that Selles’ experience and leadership will help steer the team towards a better outcome in the upcoming games.
It will be profitable for the Nigerian duo of Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu, if the club survives in the top flight and does not drop into the Championship. Onuachu moved to St Mary’s Stadium in the January transfer window and has not had the chance to show the blistering form he was known for at Belgium’s Racing Genk.
