July 30, (THEWILL) – Soldiers, On Monday, killed a robbery suspect and nabbed three others over allegations that they have been terrorising the Afikpo/Abaomege/Akpoha Federal Highway and its environs in Ebonyi State.
THEWILL gathered that the suspects and other gang members on the run have been a headache for road users along the Afikpo/Abaomege/Akpoha Federal Highway, especially those returning to Abakaliki from Abia and Imo State.
However, the suspects met their waterloo on Monday morning, when military personnel swooped on them, killing one and arresting three others.
The operation, seen in a trending video on social media, showed travellers and locals, attempting to catch a glimpse of the suspects while commending the gallantry of the troop as they prepared to take the arrested suspects away, with another seen lying fatally wounded.
The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, said information on the development was still sketchy as the State Police Command was waiting for details of the incident from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in the Abomege Division.
“I’ve not been able to get anything conclusive, the DPO for Abomeghe confirmed getting information on that but doesn’t have details. So, I don’t have any details to give”, DSP Ukandu stated.
