Sit-At-Home: Police Kill One Enforcer, Nab Two In Gun Battle

July 11, (THEWILL) – The Ebonyi State Police Command, on Tuesday, killed an enforcer of the sit-at-home order in the state and injured others, during a gun battle with the operatives of the command.

THEWILL reports that the state command also nabbed two of the enforcers and recovered many items from them.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital.

She disclosed that the police swung into action on getting the information that gunmen suspected to be IPOB, were shooting in Okposi, Ohaozara local government area of the state, to enforce sit-at-home and stormed the area.

“On 10/07/2023 at about 1350hrs, some armed men suspected to be IPOB/ESN members went to Okposi in Ohaozara LGA and started shooting sporadically into the air.

“On receipt of the information, the Operatives of the Command immediately swung into action by giving the hoodlums a hot chase.

“The hoodlums engaged the policemen in a gun duel, which resulted in one of them being neutralised while the others escaped with varying degrees of bullet wounds.

Exhibits recovered are One (1) blue Highlander Jeep riddled with bullets,

2. One (1) pump action gun,

3. Five (5) live cartridges.

4. Four (4) Handsets (phones).

5. One(1) sumec firman generator.

6. Charms.

7. Assorted provisions robbed from shops.

8. One(1) red and one (1) black face mask.

9. Ten (10) expended pump action gun cartridges.

10. Nine expended shells of AK 47 rifle ammunition.

“Today, 11/07/2023 at about 0600hrs during the continuous combing of the bushes, the other fleeing suspects were arrested with bullet wounds. They are:

1. Emmanuel Edwin ‘m’

2. Chigozie Udeh ‘m’ while one other was arrested unconscious with bullet injuries but later gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“The Commissioner Of Police, Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Augustina N. Ogbodo, is using this medium to warn criminals to either lay down their arms or relocate from the state as it will no longer be a safe haven for them and also urged the good people of Ebonyi state to go about their lawful activities, as maximum security measures have been emplaced, including intensive motorized patrol of the entire State to halt their activities”, she said.
