August 26, (THEWILL) – RB Leipzig’s young sensation, Xavi Simons, opened his Bundesliga account on Friday, capping a 5-1 thrashing of Stuttgart with a cooly taken goal.

The 19-year-old Dutchman, on loan from Paris Saint Germain, slid home Leipzig’s fifth after coming off the bench in the second half. It marked the end of a sensational comeback from Leipzig, who fell behind early before rattling off five unanswered goals to stun the visitors.

Stuttgart had set the pace early, with Serhou Guirassy netting in the 35th minute to silence the home crowd. Leipzig regrouped at half-time, but faced more frustration after seeing two penalty shouts waived off. Persistence finally paid off just in the 51st minute, as substitute Benjamin Henrichs pounced on a defensive error to equalise. The floodgates then opened, with Dani Olmo, Loïs Openda and Kevin Kampl adding rapid fire goals to put Leipzig firmly in front.

After supplying two assists, Simons then joined the frenzy in the 77th minute. The promising midfielder glided past Stuttgart’s back line before slotting home confidently for his milestone Bundesliga goal.

The emphatic win sees Leipzig rebound after a difficult opening match against Leverkusen last week. They will look to build momentum with Champions League play on the horizon. Stuttgart, meanwhile, will quickly hope to forget a humbling defeat after their 5-0 win last weekend.
